A Night With The Legends

8th March 2024

It was a sell out event packed with friends and family of members from the Lodge of Harmony 298.

Organised ostensibly by Joan Davies and additional support from former Rochdale Man of the Year in 2023/23 Dave Richardson and his family.

WBro Frank Durns with support from the brethren and the Ladies from the Lodge of Harmony helped with the table arrangements in the main room making sure that they were carefully positioned to accommodate all the guests.

They also promoted the event resulting in all the available tickets being quickly snapped up.

Finally, a plentiful supply of good quality raffle prizes were on offer.

There were several people on the waiting list. A fantastic testament to how popular the Lodge of Harmony 298 fund raising events are.

Joan set out with a target of raising £20k for Springhill Hospice to refurbish the family rooms as a fitting tribute to her late husband and great friend WBro Ken Davies MBE who sadly passed to The Grand Lodge Above.

Raffle ticket sales raised £935 that evening.

Joan reckoned that £15k of the £20k will have been raised by the end of the evening.

A big thank you to the sponsors for this fantastic evening event goes to Crewe Industrial Services and also the family of Dave Richardson.

Dave helped secure the following artists:

  • Geoff Soul as Neil Diamond
  • Peter Sarsfield as Frankie Valli
  • Steven Garner as the compere.

Steven kicked off the evening’s proceedings with a musical bingo. Just the perfect warm up to get the crowd all happy and engaged.

Geoff then came on next and blasted out a fine collection of Neil Diamond songs and finished off with a rendition of “Sweet Caroline” and got the crowd up dancing and singing.

The catering was confidently presented by head chef Stephen Southworth and his team and a delicious Cheese and Onion Pie or Meat and Potato Pie with chips and all the sides ensured that all the guests were well fed and satisfied.

Volunteers then sold raffle tickets and the final act came on.

Peter was amazing as Frankie Valli. He had stage presence and a super voice. A wonderful entertainer. Steven the compere also provided entertainment with his dancing.

Sadly, alas, Peter’s act finally came to an end and the raffle tickets were drawn. On this occasion, raffle winners were allowed to come up and pick their prize.

Another big thank you to all the staff at Rochdale Masonic Hall who all worked tremendously hard and helped make the event run smoothly.

A very happy ending.
