About this Lodge

Royds lodge 816 was constituted on 10th March 1860 and held its first regular lodge meeting at the Spring Gardens Inn, Wardle on 22nd May 1860. The lodge met in various rooms at public houses over the next 115 years before meeting for the first time at The Masonic Hall, White, Hart Fold, Todmorden in April 1975 where we continue to gather on the second Thursday of each month with the exception of July and August.

It is quite unique for Royds lodge to dine at 6.30p.m with a hearty 2 course meal prior to the actual lodge meeting and then is resumed with a social board after the main business of the lodge has been concluded with exception of March and December when dining is a more formal occasion. The dining fee is included in the lodge fees, again with exception of March and December.
The lodge prides itself on the quality of its ritual but in a relaxed and sympathetic manner according to each individual.

At present we have a lodge membership of approximately 25 members of various ages, employment status and interests. (Retired, professional, self employed etc.) We endeavor to be a friendly lodge welcoming visitors and new members alike. Away from the lodge we enjoy an annual BBQ and on another occasion we hold a crown green bowling day for family and friends. A trip to the races or a day on a canal barge, are just a couple of examples of the social outings we have enjoyed in the past. The highlight of the year though is our Ladies evening held in October when tuxedos and elegant evening wear are the order of the day. Of course, bearing in mind that charity is always at the forefront of any lodge or social activities.

Royds lodge as now been meeting continuously for over 160 years and the current membership is committed to uphold its values and traditions for generations to come.
