About this Lodge

Richmond Lodge was originally Consecrated in 1864 under Charter from The United Grand Lodge of England as Richmond Lodge Number 1011, in Salford, Manchester. It is accepted that the name was taken from a small rise in the ground named Richmond Hill behind the Sacred Trinity Church

The forming brethren of Richmond Lodge met at the Spread Eagle Hotel on Chapel Street in Salford in April 1864 quite possible by gaslight !!  Richmonds Mother Lodge was Zetland Lodge Number 852 (consecrated 1861).

After a number of changes in location, Richmond lodge now currently holds its meeting at the Middleton Masonic Hall on the third Tuesday of the month from October to June ( excluding December ).

Annual subscriptions currently after Initiation are £180 payable every June at our Installation Ceremony of a new Master.

Our members enjoy feeling part of an organisation that is charitable and has an impact on society, built on a value system they can share with like-minded men who also want to improve themselves and enjoy Freemasonry’s history and tradition.

The Lodge still enjoys very friendly and enjoyable dinners mixing formality with fun. It has a reputation for making new members and visitors feel very welcome.

The ethos of the Lodge is that every member brings a different gift; not all are great ritualists, organisers or Secretary or Treasurer material. However every brother is afforded the opportunity to become better at what they enjoy doing and indeed those things that they find a challenge. No Brother is looked down on; all are encouraged to succeed. We have all bought in to the Idea of excellence in the Lodge room and enjoyment at the festive board – in every case with a smile on our faces.

We enjoy working together to deliver ritual and ceremonial to the best of our abilities, which makes for a very special evening for candidates to the Lodge. What we may sometimes lack in excellence in Ritual we more than compensate in the sincerity that our ritual is presented. As Eric Morecambe once said “ I’m playing all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order ”
