About this Lodge

The Lodge was consecrated on the 18th May 1979, and originated from members of other Lodges, mainly Clemency Lodge, who decided to form a new Lodge in Shaw, Meeting at Shaw Masonic Hall. The Lodge meets seven times a year on the fourth Wednesday in January, February, March, April, September, October and November.  Our annual subscriptions are £240, with dining costs of £16 per meeting. The Installation of our Worshipful Master takes place at our meeting in October.

The Lodge prospered and soon had 40 plus members with a steady stream of new members, which was balanced by resignations and bereavements. The majority of the members were from Shaw and surrounding areas, and the Lodge soon got a reputation as being a friendly and welcoming Lodge. Thee Lodge also has a reputation of an enjoyable social board, and are one of the few Lodges who sing, the Entered Apprentice song, May the Queen live forever and of course, The Masters song.

In recent years the Lodge membership has declined in line with the national averages and currently has 19 members of whom 5 are Master Masons, 4 Past Masters and 10 Provincial Officers.

At our Past Masters meeting, usually held July, discussions take place with the Master Elect and focuses on the nomination of key offices for the ensuing year, and the roles to be undertaken by the Past Masters at the Installation Meeting.

The Lodge takes great pride in all its ceremonies, to ensure that the candidate enjoys each ceremony and will remember his special night. The lodge Mentor has the responsibility for guiding new candidates in their journey into Freemasonry, and stays with each candidate outside the Lodge room before they undertake each ceremony.

The Candidates night continues at the social board where he is welcomed into a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and presented with the appropriate degree pack after each ceremony by the Lodge Mentor.

Our members enjoy feeling part of an organisation that is charitable and has an impact on society, they can share their time with like-minded men who also want to improve themselves and enjoy Freemasonry’s history and traditions.

Each year we raise and donate around £1,500 to local charities as well as supporting both the central Masonic Charitable Foundation and the Province of East Lancashire’s charitable projects.

The Lodge has its own Web Page and a Social Media Page, were forthcoming events such as Initiation, Passing and Raising’s, along with our social events, including Ladies Evening, Christmas Party, Lancashire Night, Race, Bowls and Quiz nights are actively promoted with members encouraged to invite friends and family members, along with non-masons and their wives/partners to these relaxed and enjoyable events,

Ladies Evening is usually held in May on the nearest Saturday to the Consecration date of the 18th May.  In the past this event has been held at other Masonic Halls, and on occasions held at hotels in Southport, Manchester and St Anne’s’, were the members and their guest have the opportunity to stay for the weekend.
