‘Its a Knockout’ at Hewlett Court

‘Its a Knockout’ at Hewlett Court, Sunday 16th June 2024
Firstly, I must apologise for the length of this email. There is a lot of information I need to update you with relating to the “It’s a Knockout “contest being held at Hewlett Court.
In November 2022 the Young Peoples’ Committee (YPC) made a presentation to the Fund-Raising Committee for their support to hold an “It’s a Knockout” contest at Hewlett Court to raise funds for the EL2026 Festival. The contest is an opportunity to highlight the support that the Masonic Charitable Foundation and East Lancashire Freemasons have given to families, young people and youth groups over many years. The day will be a competitive, family, youth based fundraising event. Approval being granted the YPC has put in place plans for the event. The list of contests being decided and the layout of the competition in Hewlett Courts grounds finalised we now seek the assistance of the brethren in the your area.
To add another challenge to organising the “It’s a Knockout” event Sunday 16th June 2024 is Father’s Day. To mark the day there will be tests of strength, agility, patience, mental ability to find the best Dad on the day. A chance for all dads to enter the fray and prove to their children and the world at large that they are the “Greatest” and a testament to the plaudits on all of the cards, socks, T shirts, underpants they receive on the day.
The input from the brethren in Recruitment, Refereeing / Umpiring, Stewarding, Sponsorship and Procurement of Equipment will be key to the success of the event and, hopefully, swelling the coffers of the Festival EL2026.
We need the brethren to identify teams to enrol for the contest. Teams should have eight competitors (minimum age 12 years). They can be recruited from Lodges, Families, Youth Groups and Charities. The entrance fee per team is £50 plus a minimum of £100 sponsorship. The games will require hand eye coordination, dexterity, strength (but not superman powers), agility and can be physical. Contestants may get wet (they will need superpowers to remain dry). The games will be inclusive allowing competitors with limited mobility to participate.
Referees / Umpires
Any brethren from your area who have experience in refereeing or umpiring sports events would be most welcome. We need as many referees / umpires as we can find to ensure that there is no cheating or underhand trickery during the contests. A bit of flair / pizazz will help generate fun and wellbeing on the day.
Probably the most important volunteers on the day. Car parking, collection of entrance fees, checking tickets, crowd control (prevention of spectators going into the event spaces ) are areas we have to control to ensure everybody is safe and we don’t upset our neighbours and the local authority.
Every event is open to an attractive offer of sponsorship. The sponsors can display a banner advertising their goods or services and appear in any publicity materials. An area or lodge could also sponsor an event.
Procurement of Equipment
The YPC will issue a list of the equipment and materials needed for each event. We are going to need ropes, stakes, netting, wood, sports cones, plastic drainpipes. Any help with sourcing or having the facilities to manufacture or adapt wooden / plastic equipment for the games would be gratefully accepted. The less we spend on sourcing the equipment increases the amount East Lancashire can donate to the Festival.
We realise that our request for help in delivering a successful “It’s a Knockout” is a lot to ask of the brethren in your area. Their input will ensure that the games are a funday, create memories for the participants, publicise the good works done by Freemasons supporting families, youth organisations, hospices etc. in their communities. We seldom have the opportunity to create public awareness of our charitable works.
Could you please forward this plea for help to the Lodge Secretaries / Scribe E’s in your area.
Any volunteers to assist in Recruiting, Refereeing, Stewards, Sponsorship or Procure can call or email myself or Karen Hall on the contact details below.
Thank you for your time and we look forward to your area brethren’s participation in and support of the “It’s a Knockout” contest.
